The 8th Biannual Kaua’i Community Seed and Plant Exchange will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at The Regenerations Seed Garden in Kalihiwai (part of the Kilauea Community Garden, located 0.6 miles up Kahiliholo Road on the island of Kaua’i).
This free event is a place for people of all walks to come together and share plants that they have grown in the form of seeds, seedlings, cuttings, slips, root divisions, huli, keiki or even potted plants. It's also a special place to talk story about plants with friends old and new, whether it is a favorite flower, a tomato that does well, a cherished lei plant, or the best papaya you've ever tasted. No plant material will be sold; they are given freely or traded. There will be mini garden workshops, live music, food vendors, information tables, plant books for sale and presentations on seed saving and food security.
The Regenerations Seed Garden is a unique community resource in its second year of operation, and is ready for you to jump in and get involved. Come witness the garden’s beautiful location and see how several varieties of crops are being grown. Walk in the "field of dreams," where a permaculture-inspired Food Forest is being planned.
Check-in of plant material begins at 12pm and the seed and plant exchange will begin after the group blessing, around 2pm. Presentations will follow the exchange beginning at 2:45pm. People bringing plant material to share will be asked to fill out a label that identifies the type of plant, favorable growing conditions, and if they wish, their contact information.
Please be certain all plants are pre-cleaned, pest-free, GMO free and non-invasive. You can research a plant’s potential on being invasive at hear.org
Everyone is encouraged to attend: even if you have no plants or seeds to give away, there will be plenty to learn and receive. For more information please call 808-652-4118.
This educational & training event is made possible by Regenerations Botanical Garden and Kaua'i Community Seed Bank, GMO Free Kauai, Akamai Backyard, Mālama Kaua’i, Waipā Foundation, Heaven on Earth Starts, and Kaua`i Independent Food Bank.
