Hawai'i County council committee unanimous on GMO labeling resolution

A resolution urging Congress to pass legislation requiring the labeling of all GMO-containing food products passed unanimously out of Hawai'i County council committee.

Hawai'i County Council resolution 220-09 has passed unanimously out of committee and is on its way to a full council hearing.

The resolution was introduced by Council Chair J. Yoshimoto and "...urges Congress to pass legislation requiring the labeling of all food products in the United States that have been genetically engineered or contain ingredients that have been genetically engineered."

Council members Hoffmann and Yagong respectively suggested an amendment to furthur affirm Home Rule, and to refer this legislation to HSAC (Hawai'i State Association of Counties) so all islands can follow suit urging the  federal govenment to adopt GMO labeling.
